ESG-Portal for niceshops: Surveys on employee mobility

May 22, 2025

niceshops, an internationally active e-commerce company headquartered in Styria, is determined to make a difference across the board. Regardless of the Omnibus directive, the company continues on its ESRS reporting path—supported by the ESG-Cockpit. Both external stakeholders and the internal team are actively involved. A staff survey on mobility in the work context is currently underway. It is conducted in a user-friendly and personalized way through the ESG-Portal, a sister solution of the ESG-Cockpit, and offers added value.

Custom design and tailored input forms: The ESG-Portal for employee mobility at niceshops

To ensure the “nicepeople” feel comfortable during data collection, the ESG-Portal was adapted to meet the company’s requirements – both in terms of visual identity and user-friendly input forms, facilitating intuitive use of the software.

Employee mobility survey—individual evaluations and overall results at a glance

The mobility survey is conducted anonymously and in consultation with the coordinator at niceshops, Andreas Maurer. Figures on the selected means of transportation and distances are recorded.

Information on possible car pools is also collected. Free text comments are possible, for example to collect sustainable mobility ideas.

“Your calculated emissions are equivalent to one car trip from Graz to Vienna or ten journeys by train”—illustrative comparisons make data tangible

In contrast to general survey solutions, the ESG-Portal also allows ESG evaluations in order to really get employees “on board”. The results display illustrates the CO₂ comparison between modes of transport and the modal split, meaning the percentage distribution of the use of different modes of transport.

Andreas Maurer is delighted:

“We have optimized the survey methodology and even equipped it with a cool evaluation – so we are hoping for even higher participation figures than in the past.”

“”Stepping up” (and on the pedals) to master the climate challenge together”

Sustainability management is also pleased, as the data is automatically fed into the ESG-Cockpit and thus later into the sustainability report.

This gives Thomas Karner, coordinator for eco-social responsibility, more time to raise awareness of the issue with his creative approach: He used the beginning of April to motivate employees to find new solutions for a “good climate” in a special way.

Among other things, the following sustainability measures were proposed with a twinkle in the eye:

  • Commuting to work: “Counteracting global warming by carpooling” (promoting carpooling for single-track vehicles in the form of bicycle trailers)
  • Packaging: “Save packaging material and costs with “dual packages”” (shipping orders from two customers in one package to one of the two addresses)
  • Canteen: “Happy thoughts while eating promote our wellbeing” (submitting positive thoughts about eating regional and seasonal food in keywords to the HR department after each meal)

Creating ESG processes with maximum benefit

That is the goal of STRATECO, a sustainability research and consulting company from Graz. René Kollmann, one of STRATECO’s managing directors, accompanies the process at niceshops. Thanks to the Styrian business initiative WIN, this is also attractively subsidized!

René Kollmann says:

“These are truly rewarding tasks all around. ESG processes can deliver diverse outcomes and be enjoyable. The whole omnibus reporting obligation debate doesn’t faze us at all!”
