Circularity Optimizer impresses experts at global conference
On March 10, 2026, Peter Gruber from AEE INTEC presented the Circularity Optimizer at the International Conference on Digital Technologies in Logistics and Circular Economy (ICDTLCE 26) in Beijing – held virtually, but with tangible impact.
About 50 participants from the international expert community attended the presentation titled “Smart Digital Integration and Multi-Criteria Impact Assessment for Circular Economy Scenarios in Urban Development. The response showed that the topic resonates strongly with the audience.

Three components – one goal: A technology mix for greater circularity
The Circularity Optimizer combines three key elements:
- 3D-based scenario development using URBAN MENUS, developed by architect Laura P. Spinadel and akaryon
- A structured technology catalogue, developed by AEE INTEC and akaryon
- An ESG-oriented multi-criteria assessment integrated via akaryon’s ESG-Cockpit
Based on the example of the Gleisdorf wastewater treatment plant, the team modelled and comparatively evaluated scenarios ranging from photovoltaic systems and biogas CHP to phosphorus recovery. This case study sparked a particularly lively discussion among participants.
One question from the audience referred to wastewater treatment plants in the brewery industry – a clear sign of how practical and transferrable the approach is.
The circular economy doesn’t fail due to a lack of technologies, but due to a lack of a shared understanding of system impacts.
Fact-based decision support for the circular economy in demand
The central message of the presentation remains highly relevant: Circular economy does not fail because of missing technologies but because of the lack of a shared view on system impacts. This is exactly where the Circularity Optimizer comes in – offering a tool that makes ecological, technical, economic, and social impacts visible and comparable.
We appreciate the international interest and the engaging discussions, which confirm the growing need for fact-based decision support in the circular economy.

The project Circularity Optimizer is funded under the bilateral TECXPORT-FTI Call of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) (Call 2023).
